STM32 SPI LCD Display – Interfacing SPI LCD Module

Waveshare 2.4inch LCD Display Module

Overview

In this tutorial, you will learn how to use an STM32 SPI LCD Display to interface an SPI LCD module with an STM32 microcontroller. This guide walks through the hardware setup, SPI configuration, and the code required to communicate with the display. By the end, you will understand how to drive an SPI LCD display and create visual output in your STM32 projects.

What You Will Learn

  • How to connect a Waveshare 2.4 inch SPI LCD module with an ILI9341 controller to an STM32 development board.
  • How to configure the required GPIO, SPI, timer, and UART settings in STM32CubeIDE for the display project.
  • How to import the required user-folder display support files and configure the project include paths correctly.
  • How to run the LCD test application and verify operation through the display output and terminal/debug support.

Prerequisites

This tutorial assumes basic familiarity with STM32CubeIDE, SPI communication, simple UART terminal output, and importing external source/header folders into an STM32 project.

Materials List

Project Structure

This project uses the Cube-generated application files together with an imported User folder that contains the LCD support code. The main application flow lives in main.c and main.h, while the imported display files provide the LCD initialization and test routines used by the example.

Hardware Configuration / Pinouts

FTDI FT232RL Mini USB to TTL Serial Converter Adapter

FTDI to USB Pinout from right to left

  • Pin 1 – GND
  • Pin 2 – CTS
  • Pin 3 – VCC
  • Pin 4 – TX
  • Pin 5 – RX
  • Pin 6 – DTR
  • USB Mini – Connect to PC via USB cable

Project Setup

User Folder Download

Imported User Folder Layout

After extracting the User Folder Zip file you should Import it as a File System Folder into you project. The User folder should be located at the same level as the Core folder/directory when imported into the project.

Project Tree / Folder Layout

Include Paths

All of the sub-folders under the “Users” folder must be added to the include paths for the compiler to locate them. Otherwise you will get errors, where it can not locate various files.

How to modify project setup to add additional include paths
